A mother mourns the death of her child following an Israeli military incursion in the West Bank city of Jenin.
She is being restrained. Her eyes are closed. She is drawn to her child’s lifeless body not by sight but by spirit — or the loss of one, really. Her thoughts are colorless. She holds back tears. She has had enough, her limp hand says. Just let me through.
This photograph is also the front cover of Paolo Pellegrin’s book, Dies Irae (Day of Wrath), a retrospective and very emotional mid-career collection of his best work.
