Exclusive Release: “Normalizer” by D-Pak ft. Britnee Speers (with lyrics)

D-Pak dropped his newest single today, less than twenty-four hours after the Undergraduate Students Associate Council at UCLA voted down a resolution aimed at preventing students from urging their campuses to divest from companies profiting from Israel’s occupation.

D-Pak teamed up with Britnee Speers and legendary producer Bingybing for this joint. Some will undoubtedly see this as a diss track so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. So far, it’s gotten a number of strong reviews so make sure to give it a listen.

The full lyrics to the song can be found below.

Normalizer
D-Pak ft. Britnee Speers

SJP, can we go and do some talking?
We could make amends over hummus or a coffee
If we talk about our feelings we can stop the hate and get some peace in here, peace shalom, salaam

Hey Hillel, I know just what you are doing
Thinking you can make us stop our work by misconstruing
What it’s all about, it’s not about your feelings
but stopping oppression, and ending apartheid

Normalizer, norma-normalizer, you’re a normalizer
Oh, normalizer, oh, you’re a normalizer, baby
You, you, you are
you, you, you are
Normalizer, normalizer, normalizer, (normalizer)

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

(You!)
You think we’re angry
(You!)
And we won’t listen
(You!)
But you’re just privileged
(You!)
Normalizer

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

(You!)
Stop dialoging
(You!)
And start divesting
(You!)
Don’t just do nothing
(You!)
Normalizer

If you want to work with us we have some preconditions
We don’t do programs where two-states is the mission
If there’s not a chance to talk about our rights and history
We’re outta here, outta here, see ya

Symmetry in conflict is a problematic notion
So is thinking you can use our stories like a token
If you want to make a change, you can’t just sit around and talk
So help us divest, BDS, do it

Normalizer, norma-normalizer, you’re a normalizer
Oh, normalizer, oh, you’re a normalizer, baby
You, you, you are
you, you, you are
Normalizer, normalizer, normalizer, (normalizer)

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

(You!)
You think we’re angry
(You!)
And we won’t listen
(You!)
But you’re just privileged
(You!)
Normalizer

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

(You!)
Stop dialoging
(You!)
And start divesting
(You!)
Don’t just do nothing
(You!)
Normalizer

Maybe if we both paid attention to the facts
It would we be all good and then we could have a chat
But we can’t ’cause you won’t

Now we got a victory in UCLA
Normalizers thought they could make divestment go away
By using language like positive and peace but they ain’t fooling anybody anybody ’round here

We all know positive investment’s bogus
It takes away from what we should make the focus
Human rights abuses and divestment from their perpetrators
So watch out, ’cause we’re bringing divestment

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

Hey don’t try to front
I-I know just just
what you a-a-are

Normalizer, norma-normalizer, you’re a normalizer
Oh, normalizer, oh, you’re a normalizer, baby
