Palestinian-American Oday Aboushi, offensive lineman for the New York Jets, carries teammate and running back Kahlil Bell after Bell scored a touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars in a preseason game.
My hat goes off to Aboushi who beat the odds and overcame so much abuse to play professional football for the New York Jets. The 6′ 5″ offensive lineman is one of just five on the team and his size and relative agility means he’ll likely see a lot of playing time on the field. And this is good for the Jets because Aboushi has a lot to play for: his home crowd, his family, and his fans, of course, but also for the bigots, like MLB media coordinator Jonathan Mael, who think Palestinians are just plain disgraceful.
So here he is celebrating a touchdown. In a few weeks he’ll make his official debut and hopefully celebrate many more.
