Yes, imagine that. Except that you wouldn’t need to. The scenario is all too real for almost two million Palestinians living in the West Bank today.
Part of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories involves subjugating the population through separation. Take the barrier wall cutting through the West Bank, for instance, or the siege on the Gaza Strip that still prevents certain foods, construction materials, and household necessities from crossing through the border. Segregation is key, and one efficient tool Israel has implemented is sweeping road closures—to Palestinians only, of course.
The very talented folks over at Visualizing Palestine put together a brilliant infographic highlighting this clear form of segregation. A white and green license plate, for use only by Palestinians, means that most roads in the West Bank are temporarily or indefinitely closed. A yellow and black plate, exclusive to Israeli settlers, means that the very same roads are open.
