Human Rights

The occupation of Palestine is not a ‘conflict’ in the strict sense of the word. There are no two equal sides and it isn’t a battle waged against the Jewish religion. It is, however, a human rights struggle in which the occupying powers, for over six decades, continue to violate the natural, fundamental rights of Palestinians living within the territories and in the diaspora as refugees unable to return to their homes. With Israel’s defiance of humanitarian law standards, with sieges and air strikes against civilian populations, with concrete walls aimed at separating and subjugating the indigenous Palestinian people, the entire concept of human rights is at stake.

There are over a dozen human rights documents, charters, and treatises clearly outlining the illegal nature of the Israeli occupation of Palestine. It is important that we familiarize ourselves with these treatises because, as idealistic as they may be, they stand as one of the few international obstacles to the brutality, discrimination, and hypocrisy imposed by the occupation. The links below will direct you to the relevant human rights documents as well as the organizations that seek to uphold these standards.
